Drive and discover the Norwegian Sea’s unique archipelagos - Lofoten and Vesterålen, with their spectacular glacial rock formations dominating the seascape; clustered fishing hamlets picked out in burgundy and white along the coastline and a mystical light that has attracted artists down the centuries. Your route takes you from Andøya at the Northern tip of Vesterålen down to Svolvær on Lofoten itself with overnight accommodation in converted Rorbuer and opportunities for whale watching and bird watching along the way.

Lankanholmen Rorbuer
13 cabins owned and named by a professional hotelier, all newly built with 2 bedrooms, living room and shower/wc. 10 to 15 minutes walk from the Andrikken Hotel where you can grab breakfast or an evening meal.
Svinøya Rorbuer
30 either renovated or newly built rorbu cabins with varying internal configurations and all redolent of the original fisherman’s homes but with bathrooms, shower/wc, kitchenette and sitting room.
DAY 1: UK – VESTERÅLEN
Scheduled SAS flight(s) to Evenes via Oslo. Collect hire car. Drive to Andenes. Overnight at Lankanholmen Rorbuer for 3 nights.
DAYS 2 – 3: VESTERÅLEN ISLANDS
A must here is whale watching on the Moby Dick from which you have a 90% plus chance of seeing the sperm whales (the most abundant) along with minke, pilot and humpback whales.
DAY 4: ANDENES – SVOLVÆR
Overnight at Svinøya Rorbuer for 4 nights.
Drive along Vesterålen’s western coast and down to Svolvær for 4 nights at Svinøya Rorbuer.
DAYS 5 – 7: LOFOTEN ISLANDS
Must sees: Refsvikhula, cathedral like cave with matchstick men drawings on the walls done 3,000 years ago and illuminated in the evenings by the Midnight Sun. Malstrøm, the strongest tidal rip in the world from where whales were once heard bellowing and frightening the life out of the villagers in Hell. Moskenes with its eagles, hawks, owls wadars, divers, ducks, guills, puffins, waxwing and snow bunting being just a few of the 100 or so species sighted there.
DAY 8: LOFOTEN – UK
Drive back to Evenes airport. Return hire car before return flight to UK.
