Drive and discover the Norwegian Sea’s unique archipelagos: Lofoten and Vesterålen with their spectacular glacial rock formations dominating the seascape. Here clustered fishing hamlets picked out in burgundy and white along the coastline have attracted artists down the centuries. Your tour takes you to Sortland on Vesterålen and down to Svolvær on Lofoten. Overnight accommodation is in a mix of hotel and converted Rorbuer with opportunities for both whale and bird watching along the way.

Lankanholmen Rorbuer
13 cabins owned and named by a professional hotelier, all newly built with 2 bedrooms, living room and shower/wc. 10 to 15 minutes walk from the Andrikken Hotel where you can grab breakfast or an evening meal.
Svinøya Rorbuer
30 either renovated or newly built rorbu cabins with varying internal configurations and all redolent of the original fisherman’s homes but with bathrooms, shower/wc, kitchenette and sitting room.
Day 1 UK – Vesterålen
Scheduled SAS flights to Evenes via Oslo. Collect your hire car and drive to Sortland. Overnight at the Sortland Hotel for 3 nights.
Days 2 – 3 Vesterålen Islands
A must here is whale watching on the Moby Dick at Andenes or from Sto for longer trips that include bird life as well. At both you have a high chance of seeing sperm whales (the most abundant) plus minke, pilot and humpback whales.
Day 4 Sortland – Svolvær
After breakfast take the more scenic route to Svolvaer along road 82 and the Melbu – Fiskebol ferry. Overnight for 4 nights at Svinøya Rorbuer.
Days 5 – 7 Lofoten Islands
Musts here are Refsvikhula, a cathedral like cave with 3000 year old matchstick men wall drawings illuminated in the evenings by the Midnight Sun, Malstrøm, the strongest tidal rip in the world from where bellowing whales were once heard frightening the life out of villagers in Hell and Moskenes whose eagles, hawks, owls, waders, divers, ducks, gulls, puffins, waxwing and snow bunting may be seen.
Day 8 Lofoten – UK
Drive back to Evenes airport. Return hire car before return flight to UK.
