Stockholm & The Treehotel

The Treehotel is one of Sweden’s most innovative ‘hotels’.  Six extraordinarily designed cabins are suspended in amongst a pine tree forest in the heart of Swedish Lapland, a more tranquil setting would be hard to find. The natural surroundings encourage you to enjoy a digital detox, whilst exploring some of the more traditional Swedish summer pursuits. Paired Stockholm, this break perfectly combines city chic and with a back to nature lifestyle.

DAY 1 Stockholm

Fly direct to Stockholm from a choice of regional airports and self-transfer to the First Hotel Reisen, a first class waterfront hotel located in the heart of the Old Town. The remainder of your day is at leisure to enjoy the ‘Capital of Scandinavia’.

DAY 2 Stockholm

Enjoy a fulsome Swedish breakfast in the Restaurant Reisen, before heading out into what is widely regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Stockholm embraces summer like no other. Located on 14 islands you are never far from the water. Each island has its own attractions including Skansen, where you can enjoy fantastic views from Stockholm’s open-air museum and zoo. Wander through the winding cobblestone streets of Stockholm’s Old Town, one of the largest and best preserved in Europe. Elsewhere, grand buildings show off an illustrious 700 year history, which is also reflected in the city’s many museums.

DAY 3 Treehotel

Make your way back to Arlanda airport in time for the short 75 minute flight to Luleå in Swedish Lapland. Pick-up your hire car and drive to Harads. Along the way we do recommend stopping at the World Heritage Gammelstad Church Village, a collection of 400 cottages gathered around a medieval stone church. On arrival at Harads (pop. 600) head for Brittas Guest House, it is here you check-in for the Treehotel.

Your cabin choice ranges from the Mirror Cube, almost invisible amongst the surrounding foliage; the Bird’s Nest, emulating the home of our feathered friends, or the UFO seeming transported from another world. The Dragonfly spears its wings among the branches, whereas the Blue Cone is actually a red square. The Cabin is poised high on the hillside and has dramatic views over the Lule Valley.

A table has been reserved and a 3-course dinner await’s at Britta’s Guest House, the adjoining traditional Swedish Homestead, which oozes character and an unusual 1950’s vibe.

The long days allow for plenty of time to relax and enjoy the views and surrounds before you retire for the evening.

DAY 4-5 Treehotel and beyond

Return to Brittas Guest House for breakfast (and a shower and sauna too, if desired). The remainder of the day is free for you to choose. Your hire car gives you the freedom to explore the area at will. Coast and countryside are both within easy reach. Local walks introduce you to the unusual flora and fauna in the region. Discover some of the 3,306 islands of the archipelago. Alternatively select from one of the many excursions on offer.

Brittas Guest House continues to offer dinner (supplement applies) or you may wish to sample the local ingredients at another establishment. You will not want to miss the opportunity to try the original Kalix lavarat roe (löjrom) served with Västerbotten cheese!

You remain in your chosen cabin for the duration of your stay, ensuring that you can truly appreciate the owners vision of a forest hideaway, at one with nature.

DAY 6 UK

It will be with some reluctance that you will depart this idyll. Return to Lulea airport in time to deposit your hire car and fly back to the UK (via Stockholm) having experienced a slice of what makes Sweden so special.
