Dovre Railway

Northern Lights by Rail

Combine two of Norway’s most picturesque railway lines, the Dovre and Nordland lines, travelling North, starting in Oslo and finishing in Bodø.  During your rail journey, view many of Norway’s most beautiful rock formations; glaciers, valleys and fjords, travelling through charming villages along the way.   Spend some time exploring Olso and Trondheim before heading North in search of the Northern Lights.

DAY 1 UK to Oslo

Fly to Oslo and self-transfer to the centrally located Clarion Collection Hotel Bastion for a 2 night stay.  Enjoy a complimentary light supper before heading out to explore the city.

DAY 2 Oslo

Today you have all day to enjoy the many attractions this capital city has to offer. Take a guided city tour, explore the many museums or shop till you drop. Stop off at Aker Brygge for a harbour-side lunch in one of the cosmopolitan bars and restaurants.

DAY 3 Dovre Railway to Trondheim

Nicknamed 'the trail of the trolls', the railway runs on 553km of track, following a meandering route through Norway's inland countryside to provide a fascinating cross-section of scenery. Along its route the railway passes broad farmlands, expansive lakes, babbling rivers, rich deep forests, narrow valleys and high mountain passes, while providing a snapshot of the country's fascinating floral and unique animal and bird life. Arrive in Trondheim in time for a light buffet supper at the Clarion Collection Hotel Grand Olav.

DAY 4 Trondheim

After enjoying a buffet breakfast, you have the day to explore Norway’s third largest city with its wide streets and partly pedestrianised heart, as well as some great cafes, restaurants and museums to visit – plus Europe’s northernmost Gothic cathedral.  At the end of the day, head to the station for your overnight train to Bodø, the gateway to Norway’s true North. Known as the Nordland Railway, it travels through the beautifully varied scenery of northern Norway and includes views of lakes, rivers and fjords, as well as the spectacular Svartisen Glacier.

DAY 5 Bodø,

Arrive early at your hotel, the Clarion Collection Hotel Grand to drop off your luggage, and then explore the town which is located on the most northerly point of the Kystriksveien Coastal Route and known as the Sea Eagle Capital.  This evening enjoy an early supper before heading out to search for the Northern Lights.

DAY 6 Bodø

Enjoy a day of leisure.  You can choose to take a ride on a RIB boat, go hiking in the mountains, or simply enjoy the beautiful surroundings at your own pace.
