DAY 1 Bergen

Fly to Bergen and self-transfer to The Home Hotel Havnekontoret.   A complimentary light evening meal is served until 20:00. 

The ‘Gateway to the Fjords’ is filled with attractions. Take the funicular up Mount Fløyen, stroll around The UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site of Bryggen, choose your lunch at the fish market, take a fast ferry into the fjords or visit the home of Edvard Grieg.

 

DAY 2 Balestrand – A Classic Fjordside Escape

Depart Bergen, and after a scenic four-hour journey, arrive in Balestrand and check in to the historic Kviknes Hotel, perfectly set on the fjord’s edge.

Your guide leads a short orientation walk through the village, where you'll find the Sognefjord Aquarium, the Tourism Museum, and inviting cafés all within easy reach.

Enjoy a free afternoon to explore at your own pace before a delicious dinner at the hotel. Afterwards, the hotel owner shares fascinating stories from Balestrand’s rich past and early days of tourism.

 

DAY 3 Cider by the Fjord – A Taste of Local Tradition

This morning, you’ll take a scenic 1.5-kilometre walk along Balevika to Ciderhuset, passing a small beach and charming gardens along the way.

At Ciderhuset, founder Åge Eitungjerde will welcome you and share the story behind the renowned Balholm apple juice and the family’s passion for crafting cider from their own orchards.

From the terrace, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the fjord and fruit trees while sampling a selection of local ciders. A light lunch will be served before you return to the hotel in time for dinner.

 

DAY 4 Fjords & Glaciers Galore

Today, you’ll journey through 200 kilometres of breathtaking Norwegian scenery, with plenty of scenic stops along the way.

Take in the panoramic views from Gaularfjellet viewpoint, perched 700 metres above sea level. Continue along Jølstravatnet to Skei, where you can visit a traditional weaving store or relax in a local café.

Then it’s on to Fjærland, home to the Glacier Museum and Norway’s famous book town, with secondhand books tucked into charming, unexpected places.

The route continues through Svidalen to Sogndal, the region’s lively hub, before a ferry ride brings you back to Balestrand for a well-earned dinner at the hotel.

 

DAY 5 Vikings, Kings & Churches – A Day of Norse Heritage

Your day begins with a scenic ferry ride to Vangsnes, where you’ll visit the towering Fridtjof the Bold statue—an impressive 10.5-metre bronze monument gifted by Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1913, honouring a legendary Norse hero.

From there, you’ll travel to Vik to explore two remarkable medieval churches, Hopperstad Stave Church &Hove Church.

Enjoy lunch at your own pace in Vik before returning to Balestrand by mid-afternoon.

 

DAY 6 From Fjord Serenity to City Life – Balestrand to Bergen

You’ll begin your journey with a scenic drive from Balestrand to Flåm, stopping at the breathtaking Stegastein Viewpoint for panoramic views over Aurlandsfjord—perfect for photos and fresh mountain air.

In Flåm, enjoy a short tour of this charming fjord village before continuing on to Voss, where you can grab a coffee or try the traditional Voss sausage.

By evening, you’ll arrive in Bergen and check into your centrally located hotel. Surrounded by cobbled streets, historic buildings, and lively restaurants, it’s the perfect place to unwind in Norway’s cultural capital.

 

DAY 7 Explore the Historic Heart of Bergen

After breakfast, you’ll enjoy a guided walking tour through Bergen’s historic centre. Discover the UNESCO-listed Bryggen with its colourful wooden buildings and narrow alleys, echoing the city’s medieval trading past.

Visit the lively Fish Market to experience fresh seafood and local flavours. For those interested, an optional ride on the Fløibanen funicular takes you up Mount Fløyen for stunning views over the city and fjords.

After an unforgettable journey through Norway’s fjords, you’ll spend your final night at the centrally located Havnekontoret Hotel, soaking in Bergen’s vibrant atmosphere.

DAY 8 UK

Breakfast, check out, and time at leisure before self-transferring to Flesland Airport, Bergen for your return flight back to the UK
