Nellim Northern Lights
(Winter Brochure)

Officially, the best time to go in search of the Aurora is between November and March, however, the Northern Lights can actually be seen from as early as September. In fact, Autumn can be a great time to see them without any reflection from the snow.

It is also a time favoured by the Finns to go hiking in the fells, which are bursting with vibrant autumnal colours. Combine the two and immerse yourself in the red, gold and yellows that signify the ‘Ruska Season’, with a stay at a cosy Wilderness Lodge in a favoured Aurora hotspot. You may even be fortunate enough to see the lights reflected in beautiful Lake Inari.

Winter Landscape At Jarvi Lodge
(Winter Brochure)

Jävri Lodge is the former winter residence of Finland’s longest serving Prime Minister, Urho Kekkonen, whose love of the region meant that he also had the honour of having the neighbouring national park named after him. The new owners of this luxury lodge now offer a fully hosted experience for those seeking a sanctuary in what has to be one of the most scenic regions of Finnish Lapland. If your definition of luxury is an exclusive 10 roomed boutique ‘hotel’ crafted from ancient pine logs, somewhere you can kick off your shoes at the door and curl up by a log fire in sumptuous surroundings, then this is the place for you. Add a fairy-tale snow-clad landscape, innovative dining and exclusive excursions for a true heavenly haven.

Just outside of this urban oasis is an Arctic wilderness waiting to be explored and its proximity to the Arctic Circle makes it a Northern Lights hot spot. The city offers an abundance of restaurants and cafés (befitting a nation that drinks more coffee per capita than any other nation in the world), as well as fine art galleries, museums and science centres, proving Rovaniemi is not just for Christmas but a versatile and appealing destination for all.
