Ylläs´s seven fells lie east of Europe´s longest free streaming river, the Tornio-Muoniojoki, just over a 100 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. Dominated by its eponymous fell and with two original Sami villages, Äkäslompolo and Ylläsjärvi, located close by to which is the Lainio Snow Village and Ylläs ski resort.

Around Äkäslompolo are low lying fells which make the area ideal for effortless cross country skiing and perfect for snowmobiling or reindeer safaris along marked forest trails. Ylläs is also home to the longest slopes in Finland and is it's oldest ski resort. This close to the Arctic Circle snow conditions are good throughout the season and the Northern Lights glimpsed some 200 times a year.
