Take in Oslo’s extraordinary Vigeland sculpture park and Viking ship museum before boarding the ‘Raumabanen’ that climbs up Norway’s mountain spine to Åndalsnes on the edge of Romsdalsfjorden; meet your guide the next day for a journey along the Trollstigen, down along the Geirangerfjord to Ålesund. After enjoying this Art Nouveau city and enjoy the unfolding vistas along the coast on a Hurtigruten steamer before rounding off your trip in the Hanseatic port town of Bergen, nestled in the embrace of its seven mountains.
DAY 1 UK – OSLO Scheduled SAS flight to Oslo. Self transfer to Hotel Oslo for two nights.
DAY 2 OSLO Day at leisure. Excursion option: Hop on - Hop off sightseeing by bus including the Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Viking Ship Museum.
DAY 3 OSLO – ALESUND Spectacular train journey from Oslo to Åndalsnes along the scenic ‘Raumabanen’. Guided travel by bus from Åndalsnes along the ‘Troll Road’, Trollstigen, across the mountain and through the valley to Valldal and Linge. Ferry to Eidsdal and further on by bus through the valley and decend via the ‘Eagles Road’, Ornevegen’ to Geiranger by the fjord. Continue by boat down the amazingly narrow and stunningly beautiful Geirangerfjord to Hellesylt where the journey continues by bus to Øye and Leknes, ferry along Hjorundfjord to Magerholm and bus to Ålesund for two nights at Hotel Brosundet.
DAY 4 ÅLESUND Cultural and scenic excursions unfold by hour starting from the Quaysied in Ålesund and steaming along the Geirangerfjord on the Hurtigruten disembarking in the eponymous village for an afternoon ashore. Early evening departure by ferry back down the fjord to Hellesylt for an ‘up close and personal’ experience. Continue by bus through the boulder scree slashed Norangsdal valley to the village of Oye before continuing back to Ålesund.
DAY 5 ÅLESUND – BERGEN Day at leisure in Ålesund, enjoy the unique and beautiful Art Nouveau architecture and visit the Art Nouveau Centre to learn how the town was rebuilt after the great fire of 1904. Midnight departure by Norwegian Coastal Steamer bound for Bergen. Overnight in cabin on board.
DAY 6 BERGEN Enjoy the rugged coastal archipelago en route to Bergen. Mid afternoon arrival and self transfer to Hotel Strand for two nights.
DAY 7 BERGEN Day at leisure. Excursion options; Funicular railway to Mount Fløyen; Bergen sightseeing tour including visits to Trollhaugen, home of composer Edward Grieg, and the Fantoft Stave Church
DAY 8 BERGEN – UK Morning at leisure before return SAS flight to UK.
