Northern Lights Experience

Witness the extraordinary phenomena of the ‘Northern Lights’ in Tromso. By night, enjoy the effervescent atmosphere of the world’s most northerly university town and sample fresh fish dishes in myriad local restaurants. By day, enjoy a thrilling husky safari, go ice kicksledding, ice fishing or innumerable other safari excursions.

The Northern Lights’ or ‘Aurora Borealis’, to give them their proper name, are a natural phenomenon, totally unpredictable but a magnificent spectacle when atmospheric conditions are just right.

And it was from an observatory, just North of Tromso, the Norwegian scientist Kristian Birkeland gave the world the first scientific explanation for the Aurora. He observed how electron rays from the sun collided with the earth’s magnetic field and followed it down to the magnetic poles creating an explosion of light.

Visible from November to April, Tromso is one of the world’s best spots from which to see the lights as well as being a city in which to enjoy yourself.

We can’t guarantee you’ll see the Northern Lights (no-one can) but we can promise the best chance possible - and numerous excursion options to make your trip one to remember.

Tromso is one of our favourite and most popular destinations, Don't just take our word for it, here is a review from one of our clients who has just returned from Tromso!

We are just back from an amazing few days in Tromsø.  Just wanted to say thank you for arranging everything for us and answering all our questions.  The hotel was perfect and the trips were excellent.  Listening to others' experiences, it is clear that you had booked us the best tour guides. Thanks again (Vicky and Stew Hayter - March 2013)
