Overnight accommodation en route is in a variety of hotel styles ranging from a converted fish processing warehouse to Sven Engholm’s hand-crafted log cabins. DAY 1: UK – ALTA
Scheduled SAS flight(s) to Alta via Oslo. Collect hire car. Overnight at Vica Hotel.
DAY 2: ALTA – NORTH CAPE
Drive north to Russenes and along the Porsangerfjord, the North Cape Tunnel to Kamøyvær and Hotel Arran via Honningsvåg. Drive to the North Cape to see the midnight sun.
DAY 3: NORTH CAPE – KJøLLEFJORD
At leisure to explore the island of Mageroya and its ‘capital’ Honningsvåg before departure by Coastal Steamer to Kjøllefjord. Early evening arrival. Overnight at Foldalbruket, a former fish processing warehouse.
DAY 4: KJøLLEFJORD – KONGSFJORD
At leisure in Kjøllefjord (optional tour on the fjord fishing for King Crabs some with a span of 2 meters). Late afternoon departure by Coastal Steamer to Berlevåg arriving at 22.45hrs. A further half hour drive along the stunningly beautiful ocean road to Kongsfjord Guesthouse for two nights.
DAY 5: KONGSFJORD
Day at leisure to ‘soak up’ the piece and beauty of this small community. Walk in the unspoilt nature, visit the King Crab aquarium, go deep sea fishing, scuba diving, take a trip to the seal colonies, swim and snorkel in the Arctic Ocean, go ashore on a small island for a walk or just relax at the charming Kongsfjord Guesthouse.
DAY 6: BERLEVÅG – KARASJOK
After breakfast continue the journey across the wide mountain plains to Tana bru and along the Norwegian/Finnish border to Karasjok. Continue to Sven Engholm’s Husky farm for 2 nights. Overnight in the totally unique log houses, hand built by Sven himself.
DAY 7: SVEN ENGHOLM’S HUSKY FARM
Day at leisure, visit the Sapmi Park, the Sami parliament, the national museum for Sami culture and the Sami art centre or just ‘chill out’ with Sven and his friendly dogs.
DAY 8: KARASJOK – ALTA
Leave Karasjok and drive to Alta, making a short de tour to Kautokeino where the Sami culture is strong and then to Alta and the Vica hotel for the last night of your northern Norwegian experience.
DAY 9: ALTA – UK
Morning at leisure. Visit Alta Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with northern Europe’s largest and richest collection of rock carvings some dating back 6.500 years. Drive to Alta airport and return hire car before mid afternoon flight back to the UK.
