Hotel Alexandra
Hotel Alexandra

With landscaped gardens looking out over an emerald green lake, the views, whether of mountain or lake, are something special.  Members of the Grov family are somehow always around keeping an eye on things and perhaps it is this special attention that makes the hotel something of a gem.

Hotel Kviknes
Hotel Kviknes

Originally popularised in the late 19th century by German and British aristocracy, Scottish fishermen and painters who came for the magnificent light reflected on the Sogne, the hotel is still owned and run by descendants of the founding family.  Built on a promontory overlooking the fjord, it is the centrepiece of the tiny village of Balestrand, one of whose features is a replica Anglican Church originally commissioned by an English woman to appease her father for having married a Viking!
