HOLIDAYS IN NORWAY

To holiday in Norway is to holiday in a land sculpted by the Ice Age and bathed for centuries since in the warmth of the Gulf Stream. This vast spine of a country clad in pine and spruce holds its visitors with an almost mystical fascination: the great Fjords standing sentinel over their glass flat waters; skerries that seem to have been cast aside by some turbulent Nordic God; the verdant interior seasonally reflecting change with each solstice and equinox.

In winter the Northern Lights (it was a Norwegian Kristian Birkeland who gave the first scientific explanation of them from his researches north of Tromso) playfully appear in the night sky and Norwegian Lapland becomes an adventure playground cloaked in glistening, crystal snow with trails for husky mushing, snowmobiling and reindeer safariing. December sees the building of the Alta Igloo Hotel and the Kirkenes Snow Hotel for 'once in a lifetime' experiences of sleeping in a hotel that melts away in spring.
