Fjell Fun with Father Christmas

The mountain-top village of Iso-Syöte is cloaked throughout winter in deep white snow and has breathtaking views of a landscape littered with snow-laden conifers and frozen mires. At the village’s heart is the Iso-Syöte Hotel with its panoramic view restaurant and bar.

Your adventure include snowmobiles, huskies and reindeer plus a very special encounter with Father Christmas.

Fjell Top Cottages

Built to a high standard and set alongside the hotel proper there is a collection of unusually spacious 2-storey Fjell Top Cottages. Each has a spacious living room , fireplace, private WC & shower room, private sauna, drying cupboard and open plan kitchen equipped with coffee maker. There are 3 twin bedrooms, one on the ground floor and two on the second, where there is also a second shower/WC.  A safety gate is positioned at the top of the stairs.

Star Superior Rooms

Located in the new part of the hotel these spacious rooms can accommodate a family of four and offer twin or double beds plus sofa bed for children. Nordic in design with beautiful views across the Fjell.

Around and About

Outside the hotel is a wonderful snowy playground waiting to be explored by both adults and children alike. Situated near the hill-top summit, the slopes and surrounding ski tracks allow for hours of endless exploration with the added benefit of knowing that the warmth of the hotel is only a short walk away.

Try your hand at snow shoe walking, Nordic or downhill skiing or simply frolic in the snow with a toboggan. The children seem to have endless energy and are ever ready to drag themselves back up the hill, before tumbling back down again at breakneck speed.

At the end of a busy day you can unwind in the bar area with a hot drink or something stronger, before settling down for the night.

DAY 1: Fly to Finnish Lapland

Leave from London Heathrow on a scheduled flight to Oulu (via Helsinki) located on the edge of the Arctic Circle. On arrival, transfer 2 hours into the wilderness by private coach to Iso-Syöte, a snow-clad fjell on the edge of the Syöte National Park. On arrival, check into your cottage or hotel room, and then head to the hotel restaurant for a late buffet supper.

DAY 2:~Snowmobile to the Wilderness

After breakfast, your guide will teach you how to drive a snowmobile. After which adults will drive in pairs, taking it in turns to steer through the surrounding landscape. The children are wrapped up beneath reindeer skin rugs and pulled on a special sleigh behind the Lapp guide. Head down the fjell across frozen mires, stopping for a hot drink by a warming fire along the way. Lunch is served back at the hotel and enjoy an afternoon of snow fun on a snowshoe safari, or take some time to relax before supper, which is served in the restaurant.

DAY 3: Reindeer and Christmas Surprise

After breakfast, travel by snowmobile to a clearing in the forest alongside which stands a Kota with a welcoming open wood fire.  Alongside the Kota are some of Santa’s reindeer helpers, and a magical ride on Santa’s sleigh awaits. Later there are kick-sleds and a mini–snowmobile ride for the children.

During your time in the forest each family will make a secret pilgrimage along a candle lit track to a cabin – barely visible in the woods. A knock on the door reveals Father Christmas's secret hideaway, as well as the man himself. The rest is hush-hush until you meet him, but it is safe to say it will be a magical encounter.  Lunch will be served in the Kota and then later this afternoon transfer back to the hotel by snowmobile.  Dinner in the hotel.

DAY 4: Husky Safari

Today's snowmobile safari takes you to a nearby husky farm.  Afer greeting the huskies, mush you way (adults drive in pairs, children are drawn by the guides) along a trail marked out on a pure white blanket of snow, with only the sound of the sleigh's runners to break the silence of the winter air. Lunch is served at the husky farm, before you snowmobile back to the hotel, where you help hunt for a Christmas tree to decorate and bake some traditional cookes. Tonight, a special visitor will arrive with gifts for all.

DAY 5: Return to the UK

After breakfast and some last-minute fun in the snow, check-out and transfer by private group coach to the airport in time for your return flight home.

Local weather conditions can mean that the itinerary and order of excursions may change. Any decision to do this is to ensure your continued enjoyment and safety at the resort.

Iso-Syöte
Iso-Syöte

Sitting on top of Lapland’s southernmost fjell is the village of Iso-Syöte, which is cloaked throughout the winter in deep, white snow. At its heart is the Iso- Syöte Hotel, complete with panoramic restaurant, Arctic Spa and bar. Flexible accommodation is the order of the day. Choose from simple standard twin rooms or picturesque and cosy 1-bedroomed Kelo pine cottages. The hotel also boasts modern 2-storey fjell top cottages which can sleep up to 8.

Finally consider spending a night in the snow igloo or upgrade to the magnificent Eagle View Suite, where the walls and roof are made of glass allowing uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills and a chance to  view the Northern Lights in comfort and style.

Running down the side of the hotel are no fewer than 12 illuminated ski slopes. There are also half and quarter pipes, a snowboard park, children’s slopes and sledding hill. In other words, facilities for just about every level of experience.
