A Brief Encounter with Reykjavik

It may be one of Europe’s smallest capitals, but it certainly puts many others to shame with its diversity of attractions. In close proximity are geysers, caves, hot springs and glaciers. The city centre proffers galleries, museums and sculptures which reflect the huge variety and creative and cultural background of Iceland’s population of just 321,000. Buildings owe more to nature than to architects. The plethora of restaurants on offer pride themselves on crafting culinary delights from an abundance of locally sourced products.
 
Our brief encounter to Reykjavik is designed to be flexible. Choose your hotel and combine with any one of our excursions and adventures detailed in the excursion tab.
DAY 1 - Reykjavik
Fly from a wide choice of regional airports direct to Keflavik Airport. Transfer with airport shuttle bus (or upgrade to a private transfer) and check-in at your chosen hotel.
 
DAY 2 & 3 - Optional Excursions

DAY 4 - UK

The Lava Trail on Horseback
This guided horse trek takes you along lava fields and hillside tracks. It is particularly suitable for novices or those with rusty equestrian skills as the Icelandic horse is famed for its even temper and unique gait which gives a particularly smooth ride. You will be supplied with riding hat, boots, waterproof outwear and tack.

Geothermal Helicopter Tour
A helicopter tour gives you a view of Iceland’s volcanic landscape like no other. Its subterranean energy is on full view as you fly over geothermal hot springs, colourful mountain ranges, power plants, lava fields and craters. You land far away from the crowds and make a brief stop to witness the raw, primeval forces rising up from the earth beneath. On the return journey you will fly over Reykjavik for an aerial view of the city.

Take A Walk On The Ice Side
A glacier walk is a great way to experience Icelandic nature. Just east of the famous Eyjafjallajokull volcano and 2 hours from Reykjavik lies Solheimajokull. After a safety demonstration you will be led by experienced guides on a safe and easy glacier walk on crampons up onto the ice field. You will explore ridges and deep crevasses and learn more about these disappearing giants. On the way back there is a stop at the picturesque waterfalls, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.

Blue Ice & Glacier Hike
Explore the glacial tongue of Sólheimajökull,  a magnificent example of the rugged, raw and ever changing hub of ancient frozen water. Accompanied by an experienced glacier guide, you will investigate the crevasse riddled outlet glacier with its amazing ice formations, sink holes and jagged ridges and try your hand at ice-climbing. All tools provided. On the return to Reykjavik a stop is made at the iconic Skogafoss waterfall.

Glacier Snowmobiling From Reykjavik
