Stop the world, get off and spend a few days in these remote islands lying in the Atlantic halfway between Iceland and Norway. Unimaginable sights are in store for you. Vertiginous bird cliffs, waterfalls, islets, sea stacks with skirts of foaming water and beach lines stretching as far as the eye can see.
The Faroe Islands, an 18 island archipelago, has a population of 45,000 somewhat outnumbered by the millions of birds that make their home there, along with sea trout, salmon, coalfish, cod and giant halibut.
DAY 1: UK-FAROES
Scheduled Atlantic Airways flights from London Stansted to Vágar Airport in the Faroes, transfer by airport bus to Tórshavn and the Hotel Tórshavn or Hotel Hafnia for two nights.
DAY 2: FAROES
Day at leisure
DAY 3: EYSTUROY
After an early breakfast depart for Eysturoy separated from the larger island of Streymoy by a narrow channel. Stop at Eidi for a view down the fjord with Mount Slaettaratindur in the distance. In Oyndarfjørdur are the Rinkusteinar, two enormous stones which rock back and forth in the tide. Eysturoy is characterised by tiny villages with traditional Faroese houses, built in stone or wood and topped with grass roofs. Gjogv and Funningur are two charming examples. In the afternoon there is a stop at Saksun on Streymoy an exquisite little village surrounded by mountains on three sides.
DAY 4: SANDOY
Today your tour takes you to the southern island of Sandoy, its mild, green landscapes lakes and sand dunes contrasting with the more rugged ones of those in the North. The villages here (Sandur, Skarvanes, Skálavík, Húsavík and Dalur) are quintessentially Faroese both in appearance and culture and the island’s cliff faces are home to numerous puffin colonies.
DAY 5: TORSHAVN- UK
Early breakfast and airport bus transfer to Vagar airport for return flight to UK.
