‘Brief encounter’ Copenhagen City Break

With its theatrical back-drop of copper towers and spires, the ‘købmændenes havn’ (merchant’s harbour) that grew fat as a centre of Baltic trade is now a city of easy living, filled with cafés, restaurants, museums, fountains, statues and squares: all humoured by playful street musicians and performers.

The quayside at Nyhavn with its outdoor restaurants, boutiques and antique shops, retains the genuine charm and authenticity of by-gone days: a place to see and be seen. The city is surrounded by water, sea and canals - the maritime atmosphere is indelible and at night the centre is illuminated by the glittering lights of Tivoli, open from mid-April to mid-September.
